String coaching workshop with Helene Pohl and Rolf Gjelsten at Papatoetoe East School.
Tironui Youth Orchestra members joining Auckland Philharmonia's massed community ensemble at Auckland Town Hall – 300+ instrumentalists and singers of all ages and abilities performing works by Tāwhiro Maxwell & Te Okeroa Huriwaka, Carl Orff (Carmina Burana) and Grieg (Peer Gynt).
Including Tironui young musicians, by invitation from Sistema Aotearoa.
Continuing the whānau concert tradition with Manukau Concert Band, led by Richar Marin Hidalgo as their Musical Director, including a 3pm concert at Puhinui School.
Held at Papatoetoe High School, for our Junior and Intermediate students (Grade 1–2).
Tomasi Latai (Year 10, Bass Trombone) has been selected for the Development Band course in Christchurch, with course fees supported by the Trust.
Programme wraps up for our Grade 1–2 musicians, with a finale performance at 2pm at Papatoetoe High School. The 2pm finale performance will also feature our Tironui Youth Orchestra and Concert Band.
Our annual Scholar’s Showcase concert – may fall in late November or early December this year.

Five scholarship students attended: Aldrik Aguilar & Aydin Hassan (Violin), Jeremiah Fonoti & Ella Kwan-Him (Cello), and Tomasi Latai (Trombone).
Held over Waitangi Weekend at Auckland University School of Music. Shekinah-Glory Enoka-Robertson attended, supported by the Trust, with Richar Marin Hidalgo leading the saxophone ensemble.
A weekend of workshops and masterclasses for young string players, alongside musicians from Sistema Aotearoa, Auckland University and private studios – concluding with a celebratory concert in front of a packed Kāhui St Davids.
The New Zealand String Quartet visited Papatoetoe High School for a day of chamber coaching with Tironui ensembles.
First rehearsal held at Papatoetoe High School – 47 scholarship students signed up, with over 90% attendance. Conducted by Rod Skipp.

Tironui String Quartet attended the Chamber Lab hosted by the New Zealand String Quartet at Te Koki New Zealand School of Music, accompanied by Veronica Dale – the Trust’s first national trip, with Trust founders Peter and Pam Hubscher attending in support.
Violin workshop and masterclass sessions alongside Sistema Aotearoa at Ōtara Music Arts Centre (ŌMAC), led by Michael Hill International Violin Competition competitors and fellows.
Gala performance for 3 selected scholars, performing as part of a massed string ensemble in works by Sarasate and Paganini at the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber.
Held at Diocesan School for Girls – 114 groups competed in the Auckland District round, with strong feedback from adjudicators for all three ensembles.
Tironui ensembles performed at mid-year events across our partner schools.
Held at St Peter’s School, Cambridge – Tironui Concert Band’s first national festival appearance, awarded the Spirit of the Festival award and a Bronze award for their performance.
Esther Park (Violin) and Ella-Mae Kwan-Him (Cello) took part in side-by-side rehearsals and performance with Auckland Phil players.
Around 35 students travelled to Kelston Boys High School for ‘Playalong, Singalong’, alongside the Auckland Gospel Choir and musicians from across West Auckland.
Held at Papatoetoe High School for Tironui Youth Orchestra and Concert Band members, with a finale concert in the Papatoetoe High School Hall.
Tomasi and Gideon Latai travelled to Brisbane with the ASDAH Brass Band, with the Trust contributing to travel costs.
A week of KBB Festival performances across Papatoetoe High School and Tironui ensembles.

A Tironui group performed ahead of the Auckland Phil’s concert featuring cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason (Elgar’s Cello Concerto) and Sibelius’ 5th Symphony, with Patchara and Samaira playing the 1st movement of Bach’s Double Violin Concerto – around 50 tickets were provided by Auckland Phil for our scholars to attend.
Held at the Due Drop Events Centre, with students from Papatoetoe High School, One Tree Hill College and other schools joining Auckland Philharmonia players for a side-by-side session.

Tironui Music Trust provides a fully-funded instrumental music programme for students across Papatoetoe and Mt Wellington in Auckland, creating musical pathways for young New Zealanders who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Founded in 2006 by Peter and Pam Hubscher, the Trust now supports 500 students in String and Band tuition, including 80 fully funded scholarships, across 9 partner schools.
